Frequently Asked Questions

Comfort & Fit

How does EARA approach comfort?

At EARA, comfort is designed into every stage of the process. We focus on solving the most common cause of discomfort in clip-on earrings — incorrect tension — by offering adjustable grip mechanisms on styles like soft pad or screw-back clip-ons, allowing customers to customize fit based on their earlobe thickness and comfort level. For traditional mini-clip and paddle-back styles, each pair is individually adjusted before shipping to ensure a balanced hold that is secure but not too tight. We also include complimentary earring pads with select designs for added softness and comfort. Our goal is to make clip-on earrings that feel secure, wearable, and comfortable from the moment you put them on.

How do I get a secure fit if my clip-ons feel loose?

For adjustable styles, you can tighten the clamp by closing the gap slightly narrower than your earlobe, then slide the earring on from the thinner upper part of your ear down to your earlobe. When adjusting, hold the stem connecting to the earring steady so you don't weaken it over time. Once set to a comfortable level, you should be able to slide it on and off without needing to readjust each time.

Do clip-on earrings stay secure all day without pinching or hurting after hours?

Yes — when properly fitted, EARA's soft pad and adjustable clip-on earrings are designed to stay secure for a full day of wear without pinching or causing soreness, even after several hours. The tension is set to hold the earring in place without squeezing the earlobe, so most customers don't need to take a break or readjust partway through the day. If a style starts to feel tight after extended wear, that's usually a sign it needs to be adjusted slightly looser — see "How do I get a secure fit if my clip-ons feel loose?" above.

How to wear the Soft Pad Clip-On Earrings

Soft pad clip-ons are worn differently from traditional clip-on earrings. Do not open the clip wide like a regular clip-on.

  1. Close the clasp slightly narrower than your earlobe. This helps create a secure fit without putting too much pressure on your ear.
  2. Slide the earring onto the thinner upper part of your ear, rather than clipping it directly onto the thickest part of your lobe.
  3. Slide it down into your desired position.
  4. Give the earring a little squeeze once it's in place to make sure the clasp is securely closed.
  5. Check the fit. The earring should feel secure and comfortable.

What clip-on earrings are best for thin or delicate earlobes?

The key is finding styles that grip well without feeling too tight. Here are our top picks:

  • Lightweight studs and huggies with soft pad clip-ons — our huggie styles are a customer favorite for thin ears, especially the Ciana and Mariah Huggies
  • Dainty dangles with invisible clips — like our Gemma Drop, lightweight enough that the clip holds all day without slipping
  • Traditional clips (paddle backs & mini clips) — the firmest grip for thinner lobes, ideal if you love larger or heavier statement pieces
  • Sliding spring clip-ons — like our Dew Drop, a reliable middle ground between delicate and bold

We've also curated a collection specifically for thin ears: The Elf Edit.

Materials & Care

What are EARA earrings made of?

Materials vary by style — most pieces are 14k or 18k gold-plated brass or rhodium-plated brass, with some styles in sterling silver. Stones and accents include cubic zirconia, enamel, freshwater pearl, and mother-of-pearl. Each product page lists the exact materials for that piece under its "Material" details.

What types of clip-on backs does EARA use?

Depending on the style, we use soft pad clip-ons, paddle-back clip-ons, adjustable screw-backs, invisible resin ear clips, and ear cuffs. The clip type for each piece is listed in its product description.

How do I care for my earrings?

To help your EARA earrings last, keep them away from water, perfume, and lotion, and store them in a dry place separate from your other jewelry to prevent scratching or tangling.
